Early Fall Landscaping: Give Your Garden a Head Start

September is the perfect time in Texas to start preparing your garden and landscaping for the cooler months ahead. The soil is still warm, which encourages strong root growth, while the gradually cooling nights give plants a chance to settle in before winter. Consider planting shrubs, trees, and perennials now — they’ll establish a solid foundation and be ready to thrive in spring
If you’re thinking of adding color, fall-blooming plants like mums, salvias, and ornamental kale are great options for pots, garden beds, or entryways. Don’t forget to refresh mulch and trim overgrown bushes, which not only keeps your garden looking neat but also protects roots and conserves soil moisture during the hotter days that can linger in Texas September.

With a little early fall effort, your yard can stay vibrant through the season and be primed for a beautiful spring bloom.

Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers

Spicy, smoky, and cheesy—these bite-sized poppers are the ultimate game day snack. They’re easy to prep ahead of time and disappear fast once they hit the table!

Ingredients:
  • 12 fresh jalapeños, halved lengthwise and seeded
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp smoked paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 12 slices of bacon, cut in half
  • Toothpicks (optional, to secure)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment for easy cleanup. In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, and paprika until well combined. Fill each jalapeño half with the cheese mixture, smoothing the top with a spoon. Wrap each filled jalapeño with a half-slice of bacon, securing with a toothpick if needed, and place seam-side down on the baking sheet. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the cheese is bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving—if you can wait that long!

✨ Pro Tip: For extra crispy bacon, place a wire rack on top of your baking sheet and bake the poppers on the rack so the grease drips away.
